Operation World

What Is Operation World?

Operation World is a global prayer initiative with one purpose: to inform and inspire God's people to prayer and action in order to change the world.

The initiative assigns every day of the year to a specific country or region. For each nation, Operation World provides detailed information about the people, culture, challenges, and specific prayer needs. It's one of the most comprehensive prayer resources available, and it's been helping Christians pray for the nations for decades.

Many people have said that Operation World has been a great encouragement in building their prayer life habit and we hope that this ignites a passion for prayer in your own life. Not just for Lighthouse, but for your family and community.

How Lighthouse Uses It

At Lighthouse, we follow the Operation World calendar so that our entire community is praying for the same nation each day. When you open your dashboard, the prayer widget automatically shows today's assigned country.

This means that when you pray, you're joining not just the Lighthouse community but Christians around the world who are all focusing on the same nation that day.

Learning More About Each Country

When you click Prayer Details in the prayer widget, you'll be taken to Operation World's page for that country. There you'll find:

  • Background on the country and its people
  • Key challenges and needs
  • Specific prayer points to guide your time

You don't need to spend a long time -- even a few minutes of focused prayer makes a difference. The information is there to help you pray with understanding rather than in the abstract.

PrayerCast Videos

Many countries also have a PrayerCast video -- a short, narrated video, often by someone from that nation, praying for that nation. These are a great way to engage.

When a PrayerCast video is available for the day's country, you'll see a PrayerCast Video button in the prayer widget. Not every country has one, so the button only appears when a video exists.
